After the success of the Oswego Dragon Festival this past 3 years, the Oswego Dragon Boat Club will give our community the opportunity to dragon boat all summer long!

In it’s inaugural year, the Oswego Dragon Boat Club (ODBC) will purchase a 40 foot dragon boat, life vests, paddles. Coaches will also be trained in dragon boat safety as well as how to work with a team of paddlers.

This year, the Oswego Dragon Festival is adding a new and exciting event to its already fun-filled schedule, The Heroes Challenge!

This event takes place the night before the festival, Friday, September 5. The Heroes Challenge is a race between four teams made up of our community heroes and their families and friends.  The Oswego Police Department, The Oswego Fire Department, SUNY Oswego University Police and SAVAC, and the US Coast Guard will be participating in this event and will paddle to raise money for the Oswego YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.  At least half of each team  participating in this event are active duty police, fire, EMT, or Coast Guard.

There will be music and entertainment in Breitbeck Park before and after the Heroes Challenge race as well as a chicken barbecue. Stay tuned for more exciting information about each of these teams and about the Friday night event!

The Children’s Museum of Oswego teaches the Power of Produce at the Oswego Farmer’s Market


This summer, The Children’s Museum of Oswego (also known as CMOO) is taking learning though play and hands-on activities to a whole new level with the Power of Produce program. CMOO visits the Oswego Farmer’s Market on a bi-weekly basis and has a new activity each weeThe Children's Museum of Oswegok focusing on food preparation nutrition, gardening, composting, creating art with food, meeting local chefs and farmers, and more.


Mother Earth Baby to Host 4th Annual Healthy Baby Expo


The Healthy Baby Expo in Oswego, NY evolved from Mother Earth Baby’s participation in the Great Cloth Diaper Change, a competition to achieve the Guinness World Record for number of mom and baby pairs participating in the event. This year, it promises to be bigger than ever with fun and family friendly activities, raffles, door prizes, and over 50 vendors. The Healthy Baby Expo will also feature the 4th Great Cloth Diaper Change with the hopes of beating the world record once again.

“This is a fun family community event ideal for new and expecting moms and for children of all ages with a focus on health and wellness for young children and their families,” said Lisa Emmons, owner of Mother Earth Baby.


Bike Share initiative rolling at SUNY Oswego

Donations of used bikes from members of the greater Oswego and campus communities helped launch the effort, aimed at encouraging fitness and cost savings as it seeks to reduce car trips.


The new SUNY Oswego Bike Share program provides refurbished bicycles to students up to a semester at a time to encourage fitness and cost savings while helping cut down on car trips.


Oswego Renaissance Association accepting Pre-Applications for Challenge Block Grants.


The Oswego Renaissance Association (ORA) is excepting Pre-Applications for their “Challenge Block Grants”. These are $100.00-$1000.00 matching grants per homeowner to clusters of homeowners for exterior renovations in targeted neighborhoods throughout the city of Oswego.

To see if your home qualifies visit their webpage; www.oswegonyonline.com and look at the map of the targeted neighborhoods. If your home falls in or very close (within a block or two) you need to enlist a minimum of 4 of your neighbors to participate and fill out a simple Pre-Application Form. Once you submit your neighborhood Pre-Application and it is reviewed you will receive a more detailed Application. This Application will require more coordination with your participating neighbors. Once it is filled out and submitted it will be review by an independent review panel and the winners will be announced.


Friends of Oswego County Hospice Celebrates 20 Years


Friends of Oswego County Hospice is celebrating their 20th year of supporting Oswego County Hospice and the Oswego community in 2014. As an organization, they were originally established to ensure that memorial contributions went directly back to Oswego County Hospice to support both the hospice program and the hospice patients and their families.


Lakeside Artisans- Preparing for Their Fourth Anniversary Celebration in Oswego, NY


“There is an abundance of talented, creative people who live in our community,” said Tim Ames, president and business manager of Lakeside Artisans, Oswego’s artists co-op.

Lakeside Artisans is a very unique business, as it is both founded and run by the artists themselves. There are currently 19 artists and artisans who both showcase and sell their work at Lakeside Artisans retail location in Canal Commons. Twenty-five different disciplines of art can be found in the store including original paintings, folk art, original jewelry, woodwork, stained glass and more. Lakeside Artisans also features inexpensive prints and notecards of many of the original paintings sold in the store.

CAC to Host Chicken Wing and Micro Brew Festival on February 7th, 2014


On Friday, February 7th, 2014, the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County is hosting their 3rdAnnual Chicken Wing and Micro-Brew Fest. For a $20 admission fee, you can sample chicken wings from participating local restaurants while they compete for the CAC’s Blue Ribbon Award for the best chicken wing. Mico-brew sampling will also be included in the admission fee, courtesy of Eagle Beverage of Oswego, NY.
